The Center makes available a wide variety of services specifically designed for faculty members.

We are seeking applications for three types of IRIS services. Faculty and PD Providers interested in taking part can visit this page to get more information and to fill out a brief application.

Tutorials come in many forms and serve many purposes. On our Website, you will find short audio and video descriptions about how to find and efficiently use the IRIS resources.

Web Tours offer groups of faculty, professional development providers, state department administrators, and others an in-depth guided look at the IRIS Website. These hour-long Web Tours require participants to connect through their personal computers. To schedule your own Web Tour, contact us at iris@cgu.edu.

Conference Presentations showcase IRIS services and resources for participants at conferences and other state, regional, and national meetings. To learn about future conference presentations, check out Upcoming Events.

Faculty Seminars are 1.75-day events during which, typically, representatives from a college join others from across a state or region for some hands-on work. Particular focus is on using our Website and instructional resources, embedding IRIS resources into course-management systems, and revising course syllabi. The overarching purpose is to improve beginning teachers’ knowledge and skills about evidence-based practices. Following the seminar, faculty participants can remain connected through an e-community of practice and complete the revisions to their syllabi. Though these events are tailored to meet the needs of individual groups, take a look at our sample Faculty Seminar Agenda and standardized Faculty Seminar Workbook to get a sense of their basic content.

Work Sessions are daylong events specifically designed to assist college programs engaged in revising their entire curriculum or new programs seeking certification. The goal of Work Sessions is to assist in the integration of evidence-based practices and related IRIS resources throughout the targeted program(s). A sample agenda can be viewed here. An IRIS mentor is assigned to assist virtually with efforts in the months following the session. Requests for these services should be made directly to iris@cgu.edu

IRIS Materials used in targeted and intensive services are posted on this Website for universal use. These include matrices of national standards and how they align with IRIS resources; concept maps that demonstrate how case studies, information briefs, research summaries, and activities can be used to wrap around IRIS Modules for more in-depth learning; and workbooks for our various seminar offerings, among much else. The IRIS Impact Study Initiative provides support and assistance to doctoral students or faculty interested in conducting research about the effectiveness of IRIS resources used in teacher education and/or professional development. To ensure high-quality studies, the IRIS Center will make available to each funded project consultation services offered by a national expert in research design and analysis. In addition, the Center has allocated limited funds (not expected to exceed $5,000) to support a variety of research costs, such as expenditures for data collectors, reliability checkers, test instruments, software, or incentives for participants. We anticipate supporting five studies annually, which are selected through a competitive process. The Center will also support one national conference presentation for each completed impact studies. We anticipate having another round of competitions. The request for proposals will be posted at the end of December 2014. Those interested in obtaining support for an IRIS Impact Study might find it useful to review the guidelines used for the currently on-going studies.
