Sharon Sacks shares her thoughts about what teachers should know about assistive technology (time: 0:38).
I think they should know what’s available. And the teacher of the visually impaired can certainly help them with that. I think they should have opportunities to experiment with the different forms of adaptive technology that might be appropriate for a specific student. Sometimes it’s helpful for the general ed teacher to know-when there’s a piece of equipment that breaks down or is not working correctly-to know who to go to. So it’s knowing where to go, knowing what’s wrong with the equipment if it breaks down and knowing about the different pieces of equipment.
