Slope Calculation – Directions

teacher with graphTo calculate the slope of a student’s CBM scores, the teacher should follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1

Collect the following:

  • The score on the first probe (y1)
  • The score on the last probe (y2)
  • The first administration time period (x1)
  • The last administration time period (x2)

Example:

  • y1 = 1
  • y2 = 14
  • x1 = 1
  • x2 = 8
Step 2

Apply the following formula:

Slope = y2-y1
line
x2-x1

Example:

Slope = 14-1
line
8-1
= 13
