Online Course Design for College and University Faculty
Assessment
In a typical IRIS Module, one that is embedded into college and university courses, the Assessment component of the cycle contains questions that you can use to evaluate your students’ learning on the module’s content. Because this IRIS Module was developed for you, and not your students, we instead congratulate you on completing this resource and thank you for coming along with us on this journey. We hope we’ve covered enough steps in enough detail to start you on your way toward building a successful course. However, if you take nothing else away from the lessons of this module, let it be that:
-
Creating a new kind of course for your students is a thoughtful, step-by-step process. It’s okay if something doesn’t work out for you the first time. That’s normal and expected.
-
Most of the strengths you demonstrate in your face-to-face course will carry over into online or hybrid versions, though a bit of adjustment might be necessary.
-
Building a strong rapport with your students can help overcome some of the social limitations native to an online experience. Therefore, think about your presence as a teacher and building a community with your class.
Maybe most importantly of all, expect trial-and-error. This is going to take some effort, and it’s going to take some patience. In the end, it’ll all be worth it. We know you’re going to do just fine.
