implemeting the plan ovalMs. HooperWhen implementing RTI, a school must determine how it will acquire and allocate needed resources. Mr. Irwin and the rest of the planning team use the action plan to generate a list of resources that are necessary to effectively implement the RTI approach at Mayflower Elementary (see the table below). During this process, the planning team realizes that the school should immediately hire one personnel resource, an RTI coach: This person could help guide them through the remainder of the implementation process. Soon, they hire Ms. Hooper, a reading specialist who has expertise with the RTI implementation process and who has considerable experience with administering progress monitoring probes and analyzing the data. Ms. Hooper joins the planning team to help it address the components of the RTI infrastructure.

For Your Information

Often, schools can use existing resources when implementing RTI. A principal’s job is to decide how to allocate and reallocate these resources in order to meet teachers’ and students’ needs. For example, the principal can redefine the role of an existing Title I teacher so that he or she can provide Tier 2 intervention services.
