Is there a tool or format that helps faculty organize effective instruction?
Page 8: How Is HPL Embedded Into the Cycle?
Elements of the HPL framework may appear in combination in virtually any stage of the STAR Legacy cycle, depending on the kinds of activities and interactions that are built into the module and how the instructor implements them.
For example, the Challenge scenario is learner-centered in that it engages students in the task and is the starting point for giving them more control over their own learning. It is knowledge-centered in that it defines the problem space the learners are being asked to address. It is assessment-centered in that learners are asked to answer questions and give reasons for those answers. And it can be community-centered in many ways—for example, when it is the common task for the entire class or when teams of two or more work on it together.
