Narrator: In the module Intensive Intervention (Part 1), you learned that the Century Elementary intervention team is using data-based individualization to intensify and individualize instruction for Natalia. Natalia, who is in the fourth grade, struggles with decoding and fluency and is reading at approximately the early second-grade level. The team has intensified the Tier 2 reading intervention Natalia was receiving by making quantitative changes and has collected progress monitoring data for four weeks.
Team Leader: As you might recall, we adapted Natalia’s reading instruction by creating a smaller group with two other kids who struggle with the same skills. We also increased the amount of intervention she receives. Natalia has been getting this intervention for four weeks. Let’s look at the graph of her progress monitoring data. It’s pretty clear from the data that Natalia is not responding adequately to the adaptations we made. We need to figure out how to further intensify her instruction. What types of information can we collect to determine what Natalia needs?
